The Story of Shap

The Story of Shap

Before the M6 was built there were only two roads between England and Scotland: the A1 to the East and the A6 to the West. One of the most hazardous journeys in the country is the A6 over Shap Fell in Westmorland. We trace the history of the road, with archive film, stories from the drivers who travelled the road and we visit in 1994, the memorial service at the Shap summit to pay tribute to the men who made the road what it is today. 50 mins. (Certificate E).
